Total quality health care that guarantees patient’s satisfaction
History: In 1980, Prof. O. O. Ogunremi was appointed Professor of Psychiatry/Hon. Consultant by the Teaching Hospital Management. He took leadership of the Department from Dr. C.O. Oshodi (Consultant Psychiatrist under the Kwara State Ministry of Health) and was responsible for the development of academic programme of the department. After his departure, several other Honorary Consultants have been employed by the Teaching Hospital from 1981 till date.
Services: The department currently runs very active out-patient (three times per week) and in-patient services in the areas of general psychiatry, forensic psychiatry, child and adolescent psychiatry, drug and substances abuse, community psychiatry, occupational psychiatry, etc. clinics and inpatient care/consultation; and also Child Adolescent Psychiatry services.
Training: The department runs Residency Training in psychiatry and training for other residents on rotation from Internal Medicine both within and outside UITH; training of undergraduate medical students, community Health Officers, Student Nurses, and Ph.D students.
Breakthrough: The department has a Child and Adolescent Mental Health facility. It is one of the few centres in the country with a full complement of mental health personnel (psychiatrists, psychiatric nurses, occupational therapist, clinical psychologist and social workers). The department is also one of the few centres in the country with fully functional electroencephalography (EEG) unit (with a complement of 2 computerized EEG machine), EEG Technologist and Technicians. In addition, the department had a modern electroconvulsive therapy (ECT, Ectron Series 5B) machine, and a modern ECT suit.

HIV Zero Prevalence Among Patient Attending Medical Out-Patient Clinic in UITH.
